The Scripture Guide is designed to be used without an account. This page describes what information is processed when you use it.
Questions you ask
When you ask a live question, the text of the question and the traditions you selected are sent to the Scripture Guide service and then to an AI provider (currently OpenAI) to generate the answer. Questions are not linked to a personal profile on this site. Do not include personal information in a question.
Optional sign-in
Signing in is optional and uses the shared Faith Vault account service. If you create an account you provide an email address or phone number and, for email accounts, a password, which is stored as a salted hash. A sign-in token is kept in your browser's local storage until you sign out. Signing in currently unlocks nothing on The Scripture Guide beyond the account menu.
Preferences and storage
Your light/dark theme choice is saved in local storage on your device. The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies.
Third-party services
Pages are served by Vercel; the answer service runs on Fly.io; typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. Each of these providers may receive your IP address as a normal part of serving a request. Links to reference editions (Bible Gateway, Quran.com, Sefaria and others) open third-party sites governed by their own policies.
Your choices
You can use the whole site without signing in. You can clear stored preferences and tokens by clearing your browser's site data. To ask about or delete an account, contact us.
